Insurance broker Gallagher has donated £25,000 to Dandelion Time, a Kent-based charity that gives support to children who have suffered from traumatic experiences such as domestic abuse and neglect.
The charity helps children overcome emotional and behavioural issues and build self-esteem in order to help them cope better at school, in life and at home. With three sites across Kent and a skilled team of case workers, the charity supports over 160 children aged between six and 13-years-old and their families each year.
Weekly programmes are run for children and their families to take part in nature activities whilst receiving one-on-one support from trained staff. Founded in 2003, Dandelion Time has faced increasing demands due to public services being placed under continuous stress.
The charity was nominated by Sarah Millan, Senior Business Analyst in Gallagher’s West Malling office. Gallagher is an insurance broker and risk management firm operating across the UK supporting wide a range of businesses with their insurance and risk needs.
Each year, Gallagher gives colleagues the opportunity to support charities that are close to their hearts as part of its Making a Difference initiative and a total of 159 applicants were received this year.
Alongside Dandelion Time, Gallagher has donated a further £20,000 to four other small charities based in the UK including Firefly Cancer Awareness & Support, The Phoenix Stroke Club, The Smallest Things and SUDEP action.
Sarah said: “It was a fantastic surprise to hear that my nomination for Dandelion Time has won and that the charity has received such a big donation.
“Through encouraging children to get involved in their natural environment through animal care, farming, cooking and crafts, the team at Dandelion Time are making a difference in the local community. With this generous support, Dandelion Time will be able to make an even greater impact on the lives of children and families in Kent this year. I’m really proud that Gallagher has helped to make an impact and support such a wonderful charity.”
Graham Carpenter, CEO at Dandelion Time, said: “We are extremely grateful to Gallagher for this generous Making a Difference award in recognition of our vital and transformative work with children and families across Kent who struggle with the effects of trauma. This
significant sum will fund eight children and their families for a three-month therapeutic programme, making a tangible difference to their future lives. As overall winners of this award we are honoured and delighted to have been nominated by Gallagher’s team in West Malling.”
