The British Street Food revolution is in full swing is fast becoming part of the cultural fabric of the UK.At the helm of Tatner's Street Kitchen, award-winning chef Kyle Tatner’s desire is to provide delicious, high-quality food, available at a fraction of the expense of restaurant dining, and challenge perceptions of what tasty, quality, affordable food really can be. Locals and visitors to Camber Sands will be familiar with Kyle keeping it real at his food truck based down at the beach. Now located in a permanent home at The Old Forge in the centre of Rye.
We were lucky enough to review this great little place down in Rye East Sussex, just on the border of Kent. We chatted with the owner Kyle who has a clear passion for what he does. The restaurant itself has a Shoreditch vibe, industrial furniture and decor, and relaxed atmosphere. Definitely put this on your list to visit after restrictions are lifted. Rye itself has plenty to offer if you have never been, situated close to the harbour Tatner’s would be a great place to start or end your evening, we noticed they also serve cocktails! I couldn't help but notice Aperol was on the menu too, perfect for the summer we have all been waiting for.
The menu itself has a plethora of world cuisine from Lamb Gyros to Korean chicken. We hear their vegan burger is pretty amazing too. They also serve breakfast, including an american classic; pancakes with bacon and maple syrup.
We tried the loaded Chilli Brisket Tasca which combines homemade herb Tasca Flatbread, Lettuce, Red Slaw, Garlic & Rosemary Fries with a Chilli Beef Brisket,Blow Torched Smoked Cheese & Chipotle Mayo. The flavours in this were so intense and reminiscent of Texan barbecue style cuisine. The slow cooked beef brisket has a smoky depth to it that is enhanced by the blow torched smoked cheese and the fresh slaw. The portions are massive too!
We ordered a side of rosemary and garlic fries, one of the signature and very popular side dishes. The flavours work so well and the aroma of rosemary hits you straight away. I am not a massive fan of fries .. unless they are cooked to perfect, and really were.
I love the sense of adventure in Kyle’s menu, combined with his great skill for fusing flavours.
We can't wait to visit again in the summer but for now @tatnersstreetkitchen are offering takeaways Wednesday - Sunday available for collection book online or call 01797 724 111.
